It is with heavy hearts to announce the passing of our dear friend, James (Jimmy) Robert Barrett on October 9, 2023. Jimmy touched the lives of many with his warmth, kindness, and unwavering passion for life. He leaves behind a legacy of joy, friendship, and a collection of cherished memories that will be forever engraved in our hearts.

Jimmy was born January 18, 1976, and attended Jackson Christian School in Jackson, TN, then graduated from University of Memphis, in Memphis TN with a degree in Business Administration and Management. He played football while in high school and never left the field as he played offense and defense. He took the opportunity to become a ski instructor in A-Basin, Colorado and found his calling to coach and lead others.

Jimmy was predeceased by his parents Jim and Joan Barrett. He is survived by his loving wife Jill Jordan Barrett, son Alexander James Barrett, daughter Jordyn Marie Barrett, sister Colleen Hatcher and her husband John, their children Thomas and Reagan, in laws Barry and Gina Jordan and sister-in-law Keely Jordan.

From the day Jimmy and Jill exchanged vows on November 14, 2009, they embarked on a journey together, hand in hand, creating a beautiful family that became the living testament to their love. Jill was not just a companion in Jimmy’s life; she held a place of profound significance as his world. Every shared smile, every shared tear, and every shared triumph was a chapter in a love story that unfolded with grace and authenticity.

He adored time with his family and cherished the adventures to the mountains to celebrate Thanksgiving. Each year, they dressed in their Christmas pajamas for the family photo and enjoyed the holiday celebrations. At the core of Jimmy’s world was his children, his true north star. His commitment to them went beyond the superficial; it was a dedication to shaping their character, instilling values, and providing them with experiences that would shape their lives.

Over the past 17 years, Jimmy assumed various roles within Dell Technologies, each one a testament to his versatility and skill. His professional journey reached its pinnacle in his most recent role as Regional Sales Director for the Southeast region. In this capacity, he not only demonstrated an exceptional understanding of the industry but also exhibited true leadership qualities that left an indelible mark on his colleagues.

Jimmy’s zest for life was truly contagious. A sports enthusiast at heart, he found enjoyment in the great outdoors. Whether he was on the golf course, watching football, especially Notre Dame, Chicago Bears, going to Chicago Cubs games or learning to be a marlin slayer, gliding through the waters in a trusty canoe, Jimmy embraced every moment with enthusiasm and a love for the simple pleasures of life.

His love for music was the soundtrack to many shared moments. From the tunes that accompanied his golf swings to the melodies that echoed through his fishing expeditions, music was an integral part of Jimmy’s life. His diverse taste reflected a soul that appreciated the beauty in every note and rhythm. He enjoyed the spotlight and the microphone, often singing the pina colada song “Great Escape,” Jimmy Buffet and many other various songs.

Jimmy’s adventurous spirit took him to various corners of the world. From bourbon hunting escapades to exploring new landscapes during his travels and cruises, he found joy in discovering the richness of diverse cultures and locations. His love for snow skiing and snowboarding displayed his fearlessness on the slopes, creating memories of laughter and camaraderie that will forever be cherished.

In fond remembrance of our dear friend Jimmy, it is with a smile that we reflect on his unique sense of time. Jimmy was, without a doubt, an expert in moving to the beat of his own clock that was habitually late. His punctuality was a legendary feat, earning him the affectionate nickname “Turtle” among his family and friends. Whether it was a casual get-together or a more formal gathering, Jimmy’s fashionably late entrances became a trademark that endeared him to all who knew him.

Jimmy found his greatest joy in the roles of husband and father, relishing the simple yet profound moments spent with his family and friends. His commitment to these relationships went beyond the ordinary; it was a source of immeasurable happiness and fulfillment.

As we say our goodbyes to Jimmy, let us remember the incredible family-oriented person he was—a friend, adventurer, and a beacon of positivity. In honoring his memory, let us strive to live life with the same passion, laughter, and love that he so beautifully exemplified.

May you rest in peace, dear Jimmy. You will be deeply missed, but your spirit will live on in the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have called you a friend.

I met Jimmy several years ago through a fantasy football league along with several others. We developed a friendship through this FF league and I saw the kind of person Jimmy was. The little time that I got to spend with him through this FF league definitely left an impression on me, and I will always remember him. If only everyone were to live their life the way he did, the world would be a significantly better place. Gonna miss you Jimmy! God bless his family and friends!

Jimmy’s grandmother lived 2 doors down from me throughout my childhood in Milan, TN. I have so many memories of our times playing outside, riding bikes around the neighborhood, and our favorite, playing Dukes of Hazzard. He was always Luke, I was Daisy, and our friend David Richardson (who lived between me and Jimmy’s grandmother) was Bo. They would “beat up” the bad guys before we lept over things in the General Lee. I can’t see anything about that show without still thinking of those times. We lost touch the older we got, but he will always hold a special place in my childhood memories! It broke my heart to hear the news. Prayers going up from Tennessee that God will sustain and comfort you!!

I was extremely lucky to have worked with Jimmy many years ago when I worked at Dell. This was a long time ago, I was at Dell from 2005 – 2015, so somewhere during that time. Jimmy was AWESOME and we immediately became friends. I’m at a loss for words, all I remember is how GREAT Jimmy was and that is the memory that I will always have of Jimmy.

Rest in peace Jimmy, thank you for the memories…..

I worked with Jimmy for around 4 years in the ACQ Segment. I will always called him on the phone to review any crazy ask that I received for any Deal. He will always give the best attitude and provide me with all the information that I was needed. I’m from Panama and he even helped me to get to my next level on my career in Finance. We had a couple of 1*1 and told me Francis you need to do this and this.
I’m truly sorry for the loss of this great Guy. I will miss talking to you Jimmy. RIP.

Our family knew Jimmy as a little boy growing up in Milan, TN. He and our son, Jake, were inseparable during their growing up years. They could walk between our houses before they were old enough to cross a street. They both loved sports. My husband coached them on his Little League team and always referred to Jimmy as “the best athlete on the field.” They were all proud of their championship trophy.
When Jim was in the hospital for an extended time, we were honored to have Jimmy with us. He was our second boy and I think our Jake was Jim and Joan’s second boy. Both of those boys were “rounders” and kept both sets of parents on our toes!
We are heartbroken for your loss and will always remember Jimmy as our boy.
